Frideswide Square Travel Bulletin - 28.5.15

Take a look at things taking shape... and plan your journeys ahead of the new school term

Work is progressing well on Frideswide Square and visitors can now take their first walk on some of the new paving with Yorkstone slabs.

The team has now moved onto paving work outside the Said Business School and kerbing work on Park End Street outside of the Bamboo restaurant and Royal Oxford Hotel. In order for this to be undertaken safely and as quickly as possible we have needed to close part of Hythe Bridge Street at its junction with Rewley Road.

Access to and from Rewley Road, Upper Fisher Row and Hythe Bridge Street will be via Park End Street and Worcester Street, in both directions. Signs are in place for road users.

Adjustments have also been made to the traffic signal timings at the junction of Worcester Street/George Street/Hythe Bridge Street, Beaumont Street, and Park End St/Worcester St/New Road and will be monitored and further adjustments made as required throughout the period of the work.

Pedestrians will also notice that the walkway area has moved slightly so that work outside the business school can be done. This means that anyone using the route will be walking along the first completed piece of the new square.

Schools are back – plan your journeys

Schools in Oxfordshire will return for the new term on 1 June.

The start of the new term means that there will be more cars on the road across the county and increased delays are likely for anyone travelling through Frideswide Square.

However now that work is complete on London Road, the Plain and the A423 at Kennington it is likely that you could find a better alternative route into or around the city. The network of park and ride sites around Oxford, or travelling outside of peak hours could also help you avoid congestion. You are also urged to consider alternative modes of transport such as walking and cycling particularly during this warmer, lighter time of the year.

Eat, drink, shop or relax

All businesses on Frideswide Square, Hythe Bridge Street and Park End Street are open for business and are easy to reach, even with all the work we are doing nearby.

With the weather being good (at the time of writing at least!) and work going well, now is a good time to see how things are taking shape and perhaps try out something a little different to eat, a new look or just unwind by checking out what is on offer in and around the square.
