Work is going well at Milton Interchange with good progress being made on some major engineering tasks and some significant changes to traffic management are imminent
Important traffic information
There will be an overnight northbound carriageway closure from 10PM to 6AM on the A34 on Friday 5 June and then from Monday 8 to Friday 26 June excluding weekends.
This is to prepare the carriageway for the next phase of the project which is due to start in July. During these closures, A34 northbound traffic will leave at Chilton interchange, following the A4185 to Rowstock roundabout and straight through onto the A4130 northbound. Traffic will re-join the A34 at Milton from the A4130 using the northbound slip road. This is the normal diversion route. Highways England drainage works on the A34 continue in parallel to our works and their traffic management plans will also include carriageway closures and diversions. More information about these works can be found here
Work on Phase 1 of 3 of the bridge construction - the section on the southbound carriageway of the A34 - is progressing.
The bridge beams which will support the A34 over the new road have been successfully installed and the wing walls have been cast. We are now preparing to cast the concrete bridge deck.
On the A4130 approaching the Milton Interchange from the Steventon direction we are widening the road and improving the capacity of the slip road on to the A34. Foundations are being laid for the new lane preparing it to be surfaced. Laying the kerbs continues.
We are also widening the path for pedestrians and cyclists from Milton Park to the Milton Interchange.
The foundation material is being laid in layers and compacted before adding the next layer, building the embankment up to match the existing footpath. A temporary alternative footpath has been installed and remains open while this work takes place.
Milton services open as usual
While the work continues the local businesses on the A4130 at Milton services, McDonalds, BP Connect, Premier Inn, the Applecart Restaurant, Costa Coffee and Ridgeway Volkswagen all remain open as usual.
