Title
A40 Wolvercote and Cutteslowe travel bulletin - 2.9.16
Traffic management
- Overnight on Friday 2 September we will be closing the northern half of Cutteslowe roundabout to complete resurfacing. The closure includes the A40 eastbound from Wolvercote to Marston and Banbury Road (north of the roundabout) to and from Harefields. The diversion for this closure is via the A34 and the Oxford ring road in both directions.
- Overnight on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 September (with Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 as back up dates) we will be closing the south side of Cutteslowe roundabout to complete the surfacing in this area. The closure includes the A40 westbound from Marston to Wolvercote, as well as Banbury Road (south of the roundabout) to and from Davenant Road. The diversion for this closure will again be via the Oxford ring road and the A34 to Pear Tree Interchange.
- Once we finish the surfacing at Cutteslowe roundabout, we will then move over to Wolvercote roundabout to complete surfacing work to the northern section overnight. While we carry out this work, we will be closing the A40 Northern Bypass eastbound carriageway between Cassington and Wolvercote and the A44 northbound carriageway from Wolvercote to A34 Peartree. We will also be working on Five Mile Drive during this time.
- Overnight on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 September we will be closing the southern half of Cutteslowe roundabout in order to install traffic light cables underneath the carriageway. The closure includes the A40 westbound from Marston to Wolvercote, as well as Banbury Road (south of the roundabout) to and from Davenant Road. The diversion for this closure will again be via the Oxford ring road and the A34 to Pear Tree Interchange.
Latest progress
We are currently working hard to complete the surfacing on both roundabouts overnight. At the moment we're focusing on Cutteslowe roundabout and once that is complete, we will be carrying out work at Wolvercote roundabout.
A number of cycle/footways have recently been opened to the public and we will continue to open areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
We're also in the process of removing the existing pedestrian crossings on Sunderland Avenue (at both ends). We have temporary traffic lights in place at the moment to help pedestrians cross the road safely, they will remain in place until the new traffic signals are up and running. The new pedestrian crossings will be via the new traffic islands that are being constructed at each end of Sunderland Avenue.
We have approximately four weeks left of construction work. Once this is complete, we will then be connecting and testing the new traffic signals. We are still on track to complete mid-October, six weeks ahead of our initial completion date.
