Title
A420 Wolvercote and Cutteslowe bulletin - 29.7.15
What you need to know
Work is now underway on improving Cutteslowe and Wolvercote roundabouts in north Oxford.
Traffic management is in place meaning that the approaches to the roundabouts and the lanes around them have been reduced. This means that journey times through the junctions will be much longer, particularly at peak times.
You can find maps showing the traffic management arrangements, speed limits and road closures on our project page under the “Maps” tab.
However all the roads and approaches are open, meaning you can still visit your favourite shops and restaurants locally and in the city centre.
Getting around
Bus companies are currently reporting that journey times on their buses, particularly on roads where bus lanes are available, are reliable.
You can find out more about local bus services and plan a journey here:
Cyclists and pedestrians will still be able to make their way through the area. As part of the project we will be upgrading the foot and cycle ways and during this time an alternative route will be signed. The closures will be signed in advance and these bulletins will also give details of closures.
If you do need to drive you may want to consider looking at travelling outside peak times or consider whether you can get to your destination by another route. However if you do need to drive through you can check how freely traffic is moving by visiting this page:
Work being done now and in the coming days
Since Tuesday morning our contractors have been on site undertaking a range of tasks that are necessary before work “ramps up” including setting up the compounds, inducting site workers, digging trial holes to assess the precise location of the utilities and environmental surveys to the vegetation on both roundabouts.
They have also started excavating the islands surrounding both roundabouts and have relocated some pedestrian crossings. Over the next week people will see more digging taking place, including to Cutteslowe roundabout where they will see significant progress being made.
You can find out more about the work being done at the A40 Roundabouts on our project page and elsewhere in Oxfordshire on our Travel Choices pages
