Phase 2 to begin, closures on Hythe Bridge Street, diversion routes in place
Forthcoming change in traffic management
Phase 1 is well advanced and we are now preparing to progress to Phase 1a from 26 May 2015 which is due to last for approximately six weeks.
This next phase involves work in front of the Royal Oxford Hotel and in order for this to be undertaken safely and as quickly as possible we need to close part of Hythe Bridge Street at its junction with Rewley Road.
Access to and from Rewley Road, Upper Fisher Row and Hythe Bridge Street will be via Park End Street and Worcester Street, in both directions. Signing for diversion routes will be installed.
Adjustments to the traffic signal phases at the junction of Worcester Street/George Street/Hythe Bridge Street will be necessary in order to accommodate all vehicle movements.
Further signs will be erected to inform all road users of this change. The plans below indicate the extent of the closure and the diversion route to be signed. Disruption and delays are to be expected, however, we will be working to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum.
How we’re getting on with the work
How we're getting on with the work Phase 1 continues inside the current fenced off area outside the Saïd Business School. Yorkstone paving slabs and granite kerbing continue to be laid to the north side and new kerbing to the south side has commenced.
Yorkstone slab paving to the footway area that fronts the Said Business School is due to commence from the 18 May 2015 and some minor amendments to pedestrian routes will be made in order to accommodate pedestrian movements through the work.
The temporary road layout continues to work well. However, all drivers are reminded that the existing 20mph speed limit remains in place and are urged to take extra care when travelling through the square and pay extra attention to cyclists and pedestrians crossing the roads.
