Work on Frideswide Square
A significant amount of progress has been made on Frideswide Square recently with work taking place seven days a week as well as in the evenings.
We are now working in front of the shops on the south side of the square to replace drainage, remove the existing slabs and lay the new Yorkstone paving in its place. Access to the businesses will be maintained at all times throughout their opening hours.
Once this paving has been completed, we will be able to open up larger areas of the square for public access and you will continue seeing the finished product in use.
We have also been carrying out extensive work on the Botley Road/Becket Street junction (shown in the photo below) and the station approach with new drainage and granite kerbs being installed, new traffic islands being constructed as well as road resurfacing over night between 7pm and 5am.
Over the next week or so we will be installing the new, permanent roundabout at this end of the square by the access to the train station. During this period Becket Street will remain closed and the diversion is via Hollybush Row which has been re-opened to two way traffic.
Park End Street
The work on the north side of the road has nearly been complete and we will soon be ready to switch into phase 2, on the south side.
Over the last couple of weeks we have completed repairs to the north side of Paceys Bridges and carried out maintenance work to the drainage and the kerb faces. Each night we have been carrying out resurfacing of the carriageway and will be completing that over the course of the next few days.
Once the resurfacing is complete we will be ready to switch into phase 2 of the project which will see us carry out similar work to the south of Park End Street. This switch will take place by the end of next week (week commencing 2 November).
Once we have moved sides we will begin the work on the other half of the bridge, repairing any damage and waterproofing the deck. This will take a couple of weeks to complete and once it is, we will then continue with repairing the drainage and any damaged kerbs.
The final part of this scheme will be the resurfacing of the road which be done overnight towards the end of November.
During all of our work, the businesses in and around Frideswide Square and along Park End Street remain open to busines
Useful information
