New Investment in Space Technology at Harwell
Harwell Oxford was well represented at the three day conference and exhibition in London between 3rd and 5thDecember 2012 entitled ‘European Space Solutions’. Catherine Mealing-Jones of the UK Space Agency, an Executive Agency of the Department of Business Innovation & Skills, highlighted the Government’s ambitions for Harwell as the hub of UK space and space related activity, including the role that inward investment would play in this.
The space sector is bucking the trend in these times of austerity, with increases in turnover, employment and investment from Government.
Harwell Oxford will launch the Space Applications ‘Catapult’ next year. Its Chief Executive-designate, Stuart Martin, also spoke at the Conference and highlighted the new facilities priorities of helping to industrialise research and commercialise and develop applications from space data.
At this event, David Willetts MP, Minister for Universities and Science announced a £1m fund for companies at Harwell Oxford via the Technology Strategy Board’s ‘Launchpad’ Initiative.
