Title
Oxford tops Good Growth for Cities Index
Oxford has come top of a table measuring the economic performance of 36 of the UK’s largest cities*.
The PwC / Demos report ‘Good Growth for Cities’ shows that the public believes there's more to life than GDP. Taking a more holistic view of a city’s success, the report measured economic performance against a range of categories defined by the public as key to economic success and wellbeing including income, health and work-life balance.
The highest ranking cities in the Good Growth Index, including Oxford, tend to do relatively well on jobs, income and health, as well as providing for the future and the environment.
Other cities which ranked above average in the report included Aberdeen, Bristol, Preston, Portsmouth, Southampton and Stoke on Trent. The UK’s biggest cities including Birmingham London, and Manchester, performed below the UK average for good growth measures, contrasting public and expert views on what makes a city attractive.
