Frideswide Square & Oxford Station Travel Bulletin: Change In Traffic Management 14 September

From Monday 14 September, the next change in traffic management will be implemented.

This next phase of the project involves worl at the junction of Park End Street and Hollybush Row and in order for this to be undertaken as safely and quickly as possible contractors will need to temporarily introduce one way traffic eastbound (into the city centre) on Park End Street and south ound (towards the ice rink) on Hollybush Row.

While the temporary traffic management restrictions are in place on Park End Street, contractors will be taking the opportunity to carry out maintenance work to the carriageway and to Paceys Bridges. This will include repairing damaged and sunken kerbs, repairing damaged drainage pipes and resurfacing the worn-out road. We will also be carrying out waterproofing and repairs to the briged located at the eastern end of the road.

The resurfacing work on Park End Street will be carried out at night under a road closure. Pedestrian access to the businesses located opn the road will be maintained but only emergency vehicles will be permitted to use the road wilst it is closed. The exact dates for these are yet to be confirmed. Advanced notification of these will be provided in due coures. This work is being co-ordinated to take place under one set of traffic management proposals to minimise the impact on the city's road network.

How work is going

Work on Frideswide Square is progressing well and contractors are nearly ready to make the next major change in traffic management. In the main work area, outside the Park End Street businesses, the installation of the Yorkstone Paving is progressing and will continue over the coming weeks. The planters have been completed and more trees will be planted in the coming weeks. The work outside Oxford train station and on King Charles Corner has also begun.

Over on the north side of the square, outside the Said Business School, contractors have finished all of the planting and also installed the permanent bus stop. They will be looking to open the main crossing (to the west of the square outside Dominos Pizza) within the next month which will allow easier access to the shops and businesses on Park End Street.

Business and properties accessible

Access to businesses and properties for deliveries will generally be maintained at all times, apart from the short periods where work needs to take place in front of particular accesses.

Delivery parking locations will vary to suit the location of work being undertaken. Liason with emergency services is being undertaken to ensure access is maintained during these restrictions. Pedestrian routes through the work and to all frontages will be maintained at all times, with temporary crossing points provided where necessary.

Bus services diverting

Westbound bus services on Park End Street (towards the rail station / Botley Road) will be diverted via Hythe Bridge Street including the temporary relocation of the bus stops. Eastbound services will continue to use and stop on Park End Street, apart from later phases of the works where the bus stop will be relocated to the Square.
