Frideswide Square Update

How the work is progressing

Construction is continuing on Phase 2 of the project, on the south side of the square, outside the Park End Street shops and businesses.  

Site clearance activities have been completed and the installation of the new kerb lines and the excavations for the large planter areas is also progressing well.

Works remain predominately in the south of the square, and will now progress to the construction of footway foundations in readiness to commence the laying of the natural Yorkstone footway slabs. 

You will also now notice the team rapidly progressing with the installation of the granite planters outside the Said Business School. within Phase 1. The team will commence with the planting of new trees and street lighting in this area Phase 1 during early September.

New paving along Hythe Bridge Street/Rewley Road and outside the Royal Oxford Hotel is  continuing and is on schedule for  be completion by the end of August 2015. . 

Traffic through the area and along the new boulevard has again improved since the re- opening of Hythe Bridge Street on the 20th July 2015.  The bus stops on the square remain closed and temporary stops continue to be situated on Park End Street. 

Businesses open as usual

The businesses along Park End Street will remain open throughout the duration of the work so please do visit them as you walk through.
