Title
Frideswide Square Update - 18.11.15
Traffic information
- Park End Street remains one way with traffic travelling towards Oxford city centre only during the maintenance work. Buses into the city will continue to stop along the shops on the northern side as normal.
- Outbound traffic will continue to use Hythe Bridge Street during the work.
- Park End Street will be closed throughout the day on Sunday 22 November between 9am and 4.30pm. Traffic will be diverted onto Hythe Bridge Street whilst the road closure is in operation. Work is also planned from 23-25 (more information below)
- The four-way lights at the junction of Botley Road, Becket Street and Station Approach will remain in place each night while we continue with the installation of the granite kerbs, the permanent roundabout and the resurfacing. These activities are anticipated to be complete by the end of November, subject to weather conditions.
Latest progress on Frideswide Square
Work is going well with the paving on in front of the shops on the southern side, as well as laying the tarmac and high friction surface (sandy coloured top coat) and will continue over the next couple of weeks. The shops and businesses are very much open for trade during the work and can still be easily accessed by anyone wanting to visit.
Contractors will also continue the paving with slabs on the footways around Becket Street, Botley Road and Hollybush Row. They have started removing the barriers around the square as they complete the work in various areas and will continue as they get closer to the completion date in December
Latest progress on Park End Street
Contractors have now finished phase 1 of the project (the north side) and work moved to the south side overnight on Monday 9 November.
Phase 1 involved realigning the kerbs, the removal of existing drainage, installation of new drainage, resurfacing of the carriageway, repairs to the underside and deck of Pacey’s bridge and waterproofing the deck of the bridge. Phase 2 involves similar work.
They will be removing the top of the road surface throughout the day on Sunday 22 November and during this time Park End Street will be closed and all traffic will be diverted via Hythe Bridge Street. They will then be resurfacing the south side of Park End Street throughout the day on 23, 24 and 25 November. Traffic will still be able to travel through Park End Street towards Oxford.
