The Rooflight Company has been designing and manufacturing for the architectural specification market from their base in Shipton under Wychwood in West Oxfordshire for 25 years.

Now employing 75 people, the company is a success story which continues to lead its market. As multi-award-winners, The Rooflight Company is rapidly developing in the field of contemporary architecture and interior design.

If you are a fan of Channel 4’s Grand Designs, you will almost certainly have seen some of their bespoke rooflight windows. In fact, they currently have their products featured in both the RIBA and Grand Designs Buildings of the Year.

Support from the OBS Elevate programme
Owner Val King explains: “It is a competitive market and we are always looking to see how we can improve. Most of all, we want to secure a thriving and sustainable business.” As part of their constant innovations and commercial drive, the company applied for an Elevate grant to help with the launch of a new product. As a growing business, they were seeking funds to introduce a new product. They secured £8,300 towards the launch costs. “The experience has been very encouraging and worthwhile for us. The application process was straight forward, and we were able to describe and explain what our ambitions were and how grant funding would give us a chance to grow.”

Growing ambition
“The Elevate grant has been a valuable help and it is reassuring to know there is support available for small and medium sized businesses. Getting the new product ready to launch was a boost for us at a time when the economic climate has seemed uncertain. It has also been great to share the grant funding success with our staff too.”

What next for The Rooflight Company?
The company aims to continue its operations at Shipton under Wychwood and Bourton on the Water. “We are in a very dynamic industry. Architects and building designers are continually on the look-out for innovative designs, and it’s our job to anticipate and develop the products they need.”
