OCDEM Industry Networking Event

This event was sponsored by 'Invest in Oxfordshire' and the University's Knowledge Exchange & Impact Team so we would like to thank them for supporting the event.

Professor Rury Holman hosted an OCDEM Industry Networking Event in January to showcase the research being undertaken in Oxford and bring Principle Investigators together with leading R&D companies to foster new research collaborations.

Around half the attendees were Oxford researchers and half were from life sciences companies, including pharmaceuticals, med tech and biotech. The event began with a selection of presentations from the Centre's researchers, covering OCDEM's research and clinical infrastructure and snapshots of some of the exciting research being undertaken. This spanned human genetics for target validation (Dr Anna Gloyn), stratification biomarkers (Dr Katherine Owen), bio-resources (Prof Fredrik Karpe), diagnostic screening (Dr Jason Davis and Prof Rury Holman) and new treatment modalities (Prof Stephen Gough). Following the talks the attendees and speakers moved to Oriel College for a drinks reception and networking dinner to facilitate further discussion.

The feedback from the event was very positive and a number of collaborative projects between attendees are already being explored. Some quotes from attendees include: "The talks were all very interesting and the dinner was superb", "thank you for a brilliant evening and fascinating afternoon", " the networking side of the day provided an excellent opportunity to make some good connections" and " thanks very much, once again, for organising this truly excellent event! It was great in content, thoroughly enjoyable and worth the effort!".
