Oxfordshire’s Strategic Environmental Economic Investment Plan

The Oxfordshire Strategic Environmental Economic Investment Plan (SEEIP) will provide direction and clarity on how investment in the Oxfordshire’s environment will be delivered. It is one of a series of investment plans which will sit under the Strategic Economic Plan, and will help to deliver its ambitions for economic growth in Oxfordshire up to 2030. Read the SEEIP here.

The SEEIP has been prepared with generous help from Oxfordshire County Council, the City and District councils, Wild Oxfordshire and Berkshire Buckinghamshire Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT). It will make a compelling case for environmental investment in Oxfordshire, by demonstrating its importance to economic growth, development, health and well-being in the county. The SEEIP will be a published document, to be used as a prospectus to attract and coordinate funding from government, environmental stakeholders and businesses, ensuring investment is prioritised and targeted to maximise the benefits.

The priorities for the SEEIP are as follows:

• Growing the green economy in Oxfordshire, including farming, forestry, low carbon energy, and environmental research and services
• Promoting and enabling access to Oxfordshire’s countryside, the River Thames and its tributaries, wildlife and heritage assets to attract and benefit residents, businesses and visitors
• Improving management of land in the Thames River Basin catchment for example to reduce flood risk, enhance water resources, and promote biodiversity
• Improving the setting of new and existing development and heritage assets by investing in strategic green infrastructure, including public open space, habitats, sustainable drainage systems, and walking and cycling connections
• Engaging people in their environment and encouraging more sustainable lifestyles

The launch of the Strategic Environmental and Economic Investment Plan (SEEIP) took place on Wednesday 9th December at The Earth Trust.
Stakeholders from across the county enjoyed a lunch provided by Yellow Submarine followed by a welcome to The Earth Trust from Jane Manley; an introduction from OxLEP Board Member, Richard Venables; a session on the purpose of the SEEIP from Helen Pearce of LDA Design; a session on Leadership and Governance from Dawn Pettis, OxLEP and Victoria Fletcher, OCC. Attendees were then given the opportunity to ask questions.
